May Monthly update

The next monthly membership meeting will be Thursday, June 3rd at 7PM.

Some updates from the May meeting and from the Board of Directors meeting are:

The restroom remodeling is now complete.  Both the men's and women's restrooms have been expanded to accommodate wheelchairs and are designed to meet all handicap requirements. Bull Creek's grounds are now completely handicapped accessible.

The next capital improvement project approved by the Board is the parking lot expansion.  Three options are being considered:   A) Only expanding out about 75 feet beyond the end of the current parking lot.                      B). Doing "A" PLUS adding a short road and parking expansion behind the archery range. C) Doing "B" PLUS dressing (flattening) the area above (uphill from) the current parking lot for more capacity.

The wheel Horse tractor will be replaced shortly as the 30+ year old machine has seen it's last mow. The Board is leaning toward a zero turn tractor.  This should be acquired before June.

The field planting has been completed with corn for wildlife.  The Board held lengthy discussion on long term habitat improvement for the upper field areas.  This will take a few years and of course money to accomplish but the end result will be upland hunting areas that will hold game birds for the club membership to enjoy!  More updates at the June meeting.

The West Deer Police cannot hold their annual Hunter Safety course in August this year due to date conflicts with their Community Days event.  Bull Creek has partnered with them for the past 10 years or so.  The Board voted to move this course to Bull Creek tentatively on August 6th and 7th.  The date will be confirmed shortly and posted here.  Sign-ups for Hunter Safety Courses are all done online now at the game Commission's website.

2010 Bull Creek Annual Picnic; Last years picnic chairman cannot run the event this year.  We need someone to step up to help out.  On the plus side, it was decided we were too close to the event (August) to try and sell fundraising tickets so the Board voted to approve all monies from the general fund.  If you are able to chair the picnic committee this year you will not have to worry about tickets.

The clubhouse water quality was addressed (again).  With the new restrooms completed it was decided to look into a new Culligan Water system (or update the old one) ASAP.  the new fixtures are already showing discoloration due to the high sulfur content of the well water. One of the Board members has volunteered  to head this up.

New red traffic lights are now installed on the shooting ranges. Use these when going out to hang targets. This is a new safety feature! The 30 yard range has a new wire mesh backstop. We are experimenting with it to see if it is more durable. Please hang targets with wood clothes pins.

The Youth Rifle Shoot will be held on August 29th from12 noon to 5PM. If you would like to volunteer to help please email bullcreekinfo@gmail.com.  This will be open to kids age 8 to 16 and will use .22 caliber only.  Sign up information will be posted soon.

Bull Creek March Update

  • The 2010 Valley Trap League schedule will be out soon. We'll post it here when available. The big news this year is the return of two clubs to the league, Frazier Sportsmen and Ford City Sportsmen. This will return the league to 20 weeks long from the 18 weeks that it's been. The first shoots will be Tuesday April 13th. See the link at the top of this page for more details.

  • April Meeting Reminder: The next Bull creek monthly meeting will be Thursday April 1st at 7:00PM. The Board of Directors met last week and will have a number of updates to bring up at the meeting including an update of the restroom remodel. Plus, final results from the March Gun Bash will be reported. Hint: Best Ever!

  • Reminder: to reserve the club for a private event like a graduation or birthday party you MUST see the club treasurer first to check availability and pay the rental fee. Do not write on the calender yourself!

  • Volunteers will be needed to help with this year's Youth Rifle Tournament to be held in August.

March Meeting Reminder

Meeting time 7:00PM, March 4th. March is typically the biggest meeting of the year. This year is no exception. 2010 dues not in and paid by this Thursday's meeting will result in loss of membership. We expect over 100 members on hand. Parking will be an issue. With our Spring Gun Bash coming this Saturday, all sold and unsold tickets must be turned in. Dozens of people are looking to buy tickets and can't find any. We'll need lots of help Saturday at Laube hall in Freeport so please sign up. Details on the restroom remodeling with be released. Construction has already started and should be finished in 3 or 4 weeks. This is the biggest improvement we have made to the club since the new addition was built 4 years ago. The March Hunter's Safety Course is filling up fast. See details and register online by visiting the link listed below.

Another reminder, all dues MUST be paid for 2010 by the March meeting, Thursday March 4Th. This means if you mail it, it must arrive by the March meeting. There have been too many issues in the past with exceptions, NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. Dues are the same as last year. Regular dues $40.00, Clubhouse key holding members $20.00 and Junior members $5.00. DO NOT mail dues to the club address. Mailed in dues must be sent directly to: Steve Martin, 3246 Oaknoll Rd. • Please bring all sold or unsold Gun Bash tickets to the club ASAP. There are literally dozens of people looking to buy them who cannot find any left for sale.
  • The Winter Trap League shoots at Bull Creek this Sunday with sign ups from 11AM to 3PM. They are calling for 4 to 8 inches of snow to fall from Thursday through Saturday so we will need help preparing the club grounds. Any help of 1 hour or more counts as a work party!
  • The Board of Directors have approved the remodeling of the bathrooms (finally!). Details will be presented at the March meeting. Work should get underway by this Monday!

What's Happening at Bull Creek?

  • The Winter Trap League Starts the Sunday after New Year's. The first shoot is at West View Sportsman's Club, followed by Frazier the week after and then Bull Creek. This is a great informal league that runs 12 weeks. You do not need to be a member of a club to shoot for that club. (See link to schedule at left)

  • The first club meeting of 2010 will be Thursday January 7th at 7:00PM. At this meeting we'll have final nominations for officers, then elections for 2010. Anyone may nominate a member for office, but to vote you must be a clubhouse keyholding member.

  • Our next Gun Bash will be Saturday March 6th at Laube Hall in Freeport. Tickets are available now ($25.00 each) by attending a monthly club meeting or from a Bull Creek Member. (See link to the left)

Happy New Year!
